Masaru is the owner and head stylist at J-COOL.
Meet the Model
Our model is SC, a local international resident of Tsukuba.
The Makeover Plan
First, we will give SC a facial, so her skin will be in good shape for the make up. Then, we are going to highlight her hair and give it some curl.
The Facial
We cleaned SC’s face and gave her a facial massage. Then, we removed dead skin with a peeling and by using oil and a steamer. Finally, we applied a facial pack to give her skin a healthy glow.
In Japan, it is common for women to have the hairs on their face shaved by the stylist. This technique is used to remove small hairs and shape the eyebrows. Foreign women don’t always like to have this done. We leave it up to the client. (We do not use hot wax in Japan.)
The Highlights
We used a level 10 powder bleach and an Ash tone color mixed 3:1 with 6% peroxide. We cannot use stronger peroxide in Japan anymore. We then put SC under the heater for 20 minutes.
The Shampoo
We followed the highlights with a shampoo that involved a three-step concentrated professional treatment.
The Makeup

Styling Time
We used a curling iron to give SC’s locks some bounce. Then we prepared her for the photo shoot.
